Dear District 69 Families,
There has been an important change to our school calendar. Friday, March 1 and Monday, March 4 will now be student attendance days. The District had originally planned to have a Teacher Institute Day on March 1st and a Parent-Teacher Conference Compensatory Day on March 4th. These both will now be regular attendance days.
This change is a result of this year’s difficult winter weather. We have had to cancel school on three days so far: November 26, due to bad weather and power outages, and January 30 and 31, due to extreme cold. In order to stay in compliance with the State of Illinois School Code for the required number of student attendance days, we are required to make up all three days.
With this change, our students last day of school is tentatively scheduled for Friday, June 14th. If there are any additional cancellations, this date will shift into the following week.
We recognize that any change in schedule may create an inconvenience for your family. Unfortunately this year’s unusual weather coupled with our later start due to construction, has prompted us to think creatively about our attendance days and utilizing these March days is preferable to a later June ending. Hopefully the worst of the winter weather is behind us, and there will not need to be any additional changes to our calendar.
I appreciate your patience and understanding.
