Our Philosophy
The TOPS Pre-K program supports the development of the whole child and provides opportunities for learning which facilitate each child’s cognitive, emotional, social, and motor development.

We believe that children learn best through hands-on play based experiences and exploration. We believe that a secure and nurturing classroom creates a positive learning environment, which will simulate each child’s growth and development.

Our Curriculum

The TOPS curriculum is aligned with Madison’s K-2 program to better develop skills in reading, writing, science and mathematics. TOPS Pre-K uses the Creative Curriculum, Second Step, and Jolly Phonics, which all follow the guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and align to the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards. Developmentally appropriate instruction promotes growth in cognitive, social-emotional, and motor skills. Children will engage in hands-on experiences, which will enhance their joy of learning. Our curriculum goals are met through:

  • Interest Areas: Dramatic play, art, discovery, math, literacy and writing, sensory, blocks, toys & games, and technology
  • Group time activities: Music/movement, story time, calendar, weather, show and tell, and literacy activities.
  • Specials: Library, Art, and PE
  • Extracurricular activities: Field trips, cultural events, and community building events
  • Outdoor Play
